Passenger rear fender

Driver front fender
As you can see just trying to find where all the issues lurk.  Right in the crease between the body and passenger rear fender found that corrosion pitting.  And then there is the driver front fender - yet more bondo.  I think at this point I am going to stop.  Finish stripping the body down, remove from the pan, and send the body off to get dipped.  Then see if there is anything left of the body.

It's Worse

The metal still has ripples and creases in it.

Yes there is a gash in the metal that was hiding under the bondo.

The entire ring around the headlight bucket was bondo.
I decided to stick with what I am comfortable with.  Loren suggested a propane torch but never used one, so stuck to chipping the bondo off.  Thickness of the bondo ranged from just 1mm to over a centimeter in thickness.  Pretty ugly.  Also found two large holes still in the metal under that thick coating.  And I still have large areas to chip away.

Bondo Nicht Gut!

Passenger front turn signal base - issues just emerging.

Zoinks! What a thick layer of bondo!!

With under nose patch panel to give scale.

A closer look at the bottom.
After stripping off the red paint and much chipping around the turn signal, the true horror can only now be guessed at.  There was no attempt to smooth out the metal before the bondo was troweled on, there are ripples in the metal.  Along with a hole that rust has created at the very bottom.  A truly horrid repair.

My next move will be survey my two parts cars to see if they can donate the needed metal.  If not, oh boy.

Steering Issue

As you can see I am trying to remove the steering column.  But what is on the end refuses to pop off.  WD-40 soak, no go.  Hit it with a hammer, still stuck.  Any other ideas how to remove it?

What is this?

Trying to remove the steering column and I find this.  While driving and having this car, I had never noticed this before.  Can anyone identify this?  I think its part of the horn ground.

Here is the contact assembled and taken fully apart.  I need to find another plastic screw on top and splice that internal wire, but its all there and now bagged in a Zip-lock.

If anyone can help me in any way on this.  Thanks.

Waffle Visors

Here are how the plastic waffle pattern sun-visors look.  Previous owner dyed them black to match the all black interior he installed.

For a red with black top November 1957 Karmann Ghia, these visors should be white?  Or match the stock interior?  And what would be a safe method to dye them?

Usual Rust Suspect

Daylight no good.

The low budget rust fix.

Guess could try to mirror pattern from this.
